Frequently asked questions
- How long after delivery should I wait?
- At minimum 6 months from delivery and 3 months from stopping breastfeeding. Hormonal shifts, tissue remodeling, and weight-stabilization all need time. Many surgeons prefer 12 months post-delivery for the most stable result.
- Fat, skin, or diastasis — which do I have?
- Most post-partum bodies have a mix. Fat alone → liposuction. Loose skin → tummy tuck. Diastasis recti → rectus repair with tummy tuck. Combined → lipoabdominoplasty. In-person exam is required to diagnose.
- Will future pregnancy ruin my result?
- Future pregnancy can alter — but does not eliminate — liposuction results. If you plan more children, consider staging: a smaller lipo now, mommy makeover after your last delivery.
- What if I still need to lose weight?
- Liposuction is not a weight-loss treatment. Reach a stable weight within ~15% of your goal before elective body contouring.
- Recovery when I have children at home?
- Post-partum liposuction requires a caregiver for the first 3–5 days. Lifting children (>10 lb) is restricted 2–3 weeks after lipo, 6 weeks after tummy tuck. Plan help accordingly.
