Frequently asked questions

What preop testing is required?
Standard preop labs (CBC, metabolic panel, coagulation), pregnancy test for females of childbearing age, and EKG for patients over 45 or with cardiac risk factors. Additional testing depends on medical history.
Medications to stop and when?
Aspirin, ibuprofen, other NSAIDs, fish oil, vitamin E, and many herbal supplements 2 weeks before surgery. Continue blood-pressure and thyroid medications. Anticoagulants require coordination with your prescriber. Bring a complete list to your preop.
GLP-1 medications (Ozempic, etc.)?
Recent ASA guidance recommends holding GLP-1 injections for a period before anesthesia (currently ~1 week for weekly formulations) to reduce aspiration risk. Coordinate with your anesthesia team.
Diet the day before?
Nothing by mouth after midnight before general anesthesia. Awake tumescent cases follow the surgeon's specific instructions. Alcohol should be stopped 48+ hours before.
Caregiver planning?
Every case (awake or general) requires a caregiver for the first 24 hours. Larger cases (Lipo 360, TT+lipo) require 3–5 days of help with meals, medication, and mobility.
Home setup?
Meals prepped and frozen, pillows for propped-up sleeping, easy-access loose clothing, ice packs, thermometer, and a low-profile chair or recovery recliner. See our detailed home checklist.
